I have been at KC Communications for just over two months now, and thought it was time to do a “My time at KC” introduction.
I had applied for a few jobs before securing an interview at KC Communications, but after coming across the vacancy in early February, I knew straight away this was the job for me, plus the perks were amazing! So, I decided to apply straight away, and within minutes I had a reply from Katrina inviting me for an interview. Wow, I knew this was a sign!
I was super nervous going into my first interview with Katrina and Sarah, one of KC Communications Account Managers, but they made me feel so relaxed. I knew as soon as I walked into their office that this was the place for me.
Katrina fired plenty of questions at me in both the first and second interviews but I felt I had the skills they were looking for. She told me she would have made a decision by Thursday. All day Thursday I was waiting around, but I got home and saw the email, I GOT THE JOB!
I recently graduated from The University of Huddersfield, with a 2:1 in Broadcast Journalism and always loved the social media aspect of the course. I previously worked at another Marketing Agency which mainly focused on design and web development but this time it was a nice change to be part of an all-girl team!
I arrived on my first day bearing doughnuts and was greeted by a KC notepad, pen, lip balm and cute mason jar. My schedule for the week was set out, which was quite daunting seeing the variation of clients, but I was excited to get stuck in.
The first day we went straight out to a new client meeting, a special needs school who are in the process of relocating from Holmfirth to Almondbury and they wanted to raise their profile. Katrina wanted me to take this on from the outset, which felt great and gave me a sense of responsibility.
It was a lot to take in, but once I had catch ups with all the staff at KC I felt at ease with what the expectations were. The girls helped me fit in straight away and we all have a great relationship.
I also work with Made by Cooper, MET Marketing, St Helens Law and The Nail Studio creating new content and monitoring all aspects of their social media platforms. I worked for The Nail Studio from the very first day when they had just opened their business. This is now a client that I fully manage and work with on a regular basis, building their relationships and brand awareness. It was great to be part of a business from the very beginning as it meant I could grow alongside them.
I had previously used most of the systems before at my previous company but it took some time to understand each client in depth as we have so many. I was thrown straight into my daily tasks and never looked back. Here are a few tasks I undertake:
- Developing social media strategies and content plans
- Monitoring client’s social media platforms
- Supporting the Account Management team with ad-hoc tasks
I have been thankful to be so involved in huge growth during my introduction at KC, from the office move to the Account Management training.
On my second week, we found out we had been shortlisted for ‘Small PR Agency of the Year’ at the Prolific North Awards. I was so excited, what a great opportunity to get all dolled up! Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but we had an amazing night out and I can’t wait for the next one!
I feel that just in these short two months at KC I have made great progress. I am starting to feel confident and become more involved to help all of the team out. I have more to learn and I’m looking forward to attending various networking events and further building my confidence in the sector. I look forward to completing the Hootsuite certification and also developing my skills further. I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2017 will bring!
