I have seen a number of companies advertising recently wanting a consultant to undertake their social media marketing in order to obtain 1000 twitter followers, facebook likes etc.
I have even submitted a proposal to one or two of these with my suggestions as to how to undertake the activity in question.
The response… that’s a bit expensive!
My response, why exactly do you want 1000 twitter followers, what quality do you expect from these followers, do you want them to engage with you, hell even convert to a customer and buy from you?
Their response – OF COURSE!
First things first, there are companies out there that will get you 1000 twitter followers, some will do it overnight, but then you spend your time preaching about your business to an audience that has absolutely no interest. Money wasted.
When thinking about your social media activities think about the following.
- What social media platforms do my target audience use?
- How do I want to be perceived on these social media platforms?
- How many quality followers are realistic?
- Do I want to obtain conversions from my social media activities?
Thinking about these 4 questions will really make you think about whether or not those 1000 new followers are going to have any interest in buying from your business.
At the end of the day 200 new followers each with an audience of 200 engaging with you and even retweeting will gain you a reach of 40,000 twitter users.
1000 low quality twitter followers or 200 high quality twitter followers… I know which I would rather have!
