My work experience at KC Communications has been completely invaluable. From day one, Katrina and Grace made me feel like a part of the team, and gave me a realistic experience of what its like to work within an agency.
Before I started at KC Communications, I was unsure as to what tasks I would be allocated, and if I’d just be the office tea and coffee maker. I couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact, neither Katrina or Grace even drink coffee! They have definitely made me feel like an extension of #TeamKC.
Even on the first day, I leaped in at the deep end, scheduling social media for clients and writing blog posts. This was the best way that I could have learnt about clients, and Katrina and Grace jumped in to guide me when I needed. It was a great atmosphere to work in – sometimes we would be quiet, tapping away at our keyboards, and others we would be giving each other ideas, or laughing about something we’d seen on Twitter.
Throughout my time at KC, I was encouraged to attend networking events with Grace, and she was there to give me a nudge in the right direction when I was feeling shy. Katrina also recommended that I go along to a Social Media for Business workshop at Leeds Central Library, which was great to give me a fresh perspective on how to utilize different social media platforms.
During my time at KC Communications, I have completed so many varied tasks; it’s hard to remember them all (it’s a good job I kept a little diary!). From social media scheduling, to copywriting for PR pieces (one of which got published – yay!), writing copy for client leaflets, putting together editorial calendars for a marketing plan, creating graphics and writing award entries. Of course it wouldn’t be a placement without the less glamorous tasks of creating twitter lists, running mail merges and updating data lists, but that all comes as part and parcel of working within marketing.
Katrina provided me with feedback when it was needed, and it has certainly given me confidence in own ability to write. One thing I have learnt in my 5 weeks is that I love writing. Whenever I have been given an opportunity to write PR, copywriting or award entries, I have jumped at the chance. I have learnt so much about the type of tone needed for different publications and social media platforms, and how to appeal to different audiences.
This work experience has certainly given me a fresh focus and direction in my career, and I can’t thank Katrina or Grace enough for giving me this window of knowledge into the marketing industry. I now understand what it is like to work within the industry, and all of the things that come with it (including frustrating IT problems!).
So a massive thank you to #TeamKC – who are certainly going places, and I’m sure will be hugely successful in the coming years.
A little message to their next Account Manager:
Welcome to #TeamKC – I’m sure that Katrina and Grace will welcome you with open arms. They are superstars, and definitely a #MarketingHero team!
