Having left Salendine Nook High School with 10 B and C Grade GCSE’s I certainly could have opted for the college and no doubt the university route. However, neither appealed to me.
Apprenticeships weren’t heavily promoted, in fact if I hadn’t of been aware of it I’m not sure what I would have done. However, once I found out about the scheme it was definitely for me. The opportunity to learn, start my career and have some financial freedom was a no brainer!
Looking back, it was the best decision I made. It allowed me to initially work across a couple of different industries before finding my niche in marketing.
Throughout my career I have worked for some interesting organisations and have travelled the world to countries such as South Africa, Thailand, UAE and the United States. Not only that I secured a career without securing any debt, which has had numerous benefits throughout my adult life.
Since I started my own business a little over 12 months ago I have been passionate about supporting apprenticeships and providing the younger generation with opportunities to gain skills, experience and more importantly start them on a path towards their career. This will continue through both work experience and apprenticeship opportunities to those from the local community.
Would I do anything differently? Definitely not!
Recently, the Kirklees Apprenticeship Hub came to film myself about my thoughts on the apprenticeship scheme. Have a watch to hear my thoughts…
