Welcome to our ‘Meet the Team’ feature, where we give you a chance to meet the people behind the business! So now is the time to discover more about our PR Apprentice, Brianna Allsopp…
Name: Brianna Allsopp
Job title: PR Apprentice
What’s your origin story?
As a child, I had a new dream job every week! From a ZooKeeper to a Patisserie Chef, Photographer to a Fashion Designer, I never really had my heart set on anything. In high school, I chose to study Graphics, which later became my favourite subject by far, and I spent every spare minute working on my coursework. The extra work paid off when I received an A* in my GCSE’s, and I chose to study Graphic Design at Barnsley College.
I continued to enjoy the subject and received high grades however when it came time for University applications, I didn’t want to focus on it solely. As much as I enjoyed designing, I also loved the photography side of my projects, along with creating ideas for campaigns and promotional items. Instead of going to University, I chose to continue college and study Photography for a year whilst I decided what my future plan was.
At the start of 2020, I planned on getting an apprenticeship in Marketing or Design after completing my studies. My plans were soon halted due to COVID. When my academic year ended early, apprenticeship opportunities became scarce, and my part-time job in a supermarket became full-time. However, after two long years of working in retail (10 months of which were during a pandemic), I received an email from KC’s Operations Manager Lana regarding a new role, after being interviewed for another position within the company last year. Two weeks later, I started my first day, meeting the team over video calls from my makeshift home office!
How long have you been at KC Communications?
I started the day after Valentine’s Day, so just over seven weeks now – although I am still yet to work a day actually in the office!
What attracted you to this role?
I had interviewed previously for the role of Digital Marketing Apprentice, so I had some knowledge of what the agency did and got a glimpse into the everyday work environment. The team all seemed welcoming and supportive. After chatting with Katrina about her Apprenticeship journey and reading some of the blogs written by previous apprentices, I knew KC Communications would be the perfect place for me. I think that starting your career as an apprentice can be pretty intimidating for a lot of people. You’re jumping straight into an industry with little experience, plus the pressure of producing work for real clients is much different to what you may have experienced during school and college. However, with KC’s workplace themes striving to support individuals goals and strengths, along with the collection of awards they’ve received for Wellbeing and Apprenticeship work, I couldn’t wait to get started!
If you could change one thing about KC Communications, what would it be?
There’s nothing I’d want to change about KC other than being able to be in the office with the team more. Hopefully, with lockdown restrictions easing, we can start returning soon and all be together in the office for the summer!
What important milestones do you have coming up in your life?
This year I’m turning 20, which still seems bizarre because it feels like only yesterday I was still in high school. I feel incredibly fortunate that I’m entering my twenties with a job I’m finally passionate about, plus I can finally enjoy weekends off and be home by teatime! I’m hoping to go away on holiday, as soon as we’re allowed, after our family trip to the Caribbean got cancelled. So I’m currently counting down the days until I can get some proper sun.
If you were handed £1.5 million today, what would you do with it?
My first move would probably be getting a new car. I love my little Ford Ka, but something a little more flashy would be great. My Mum and Dad both work ridiculously hard and have done since I was little, so I would love to treat them to a holiday. They’ve recently become obsessed with the show ‘Below Deck’, so I highly doubt they’d say no to a week on a yacht somewhere around the world.
What is the strangest talent you have?
It’s not exactly strange, but I’d like to think I’m a decent baker. My specialities are probably my Triple Chocolate Cookies or Biscoff Cupcakes. Neither of which last very long in our house!
What do you love about your job?
I love how busy I get to be and that I’m involved in such a range of tasks on a daily basis. I’ve always dreaded working in a dull and repetitive job so being in such a fast-paced industry is excellent. Another thing about PR and Marketing is that the industry and trends are constantly changing and adapting to whatever is popular at the time. You never know what’s going to happen next.
What TV show/movie/song closely represents your life at the moment?
I really like the song ‘After the Storm’ by Kali Uchis. It’s all about focusing on the future to get through any rough times. Because “after the storms when the flower blooms”. Also, the song’s album is called Isolation, and I think everyone can relate to that.
“The sun will come out; nothing good ever comes easy. I know times are rough, but winners don’t quit, so don’t you give up.”
Do you currently have, or did you have, any nicknames?
My full name is Brianna-Leigh, so Brianna is already a sort of nickname, but the main ones are usually either Bee or Bri.
What is your go-to drink when at a pub/bar?
I’m not a fan of anything fancy like wine or cocktails, so I’d typically just go with something simple like a fruit cider or a malibu and coke.
What personal accomplishment are you secretly really proud of?
I’m not secretive at all about how happy I was to get this apprenticeship. After working overtime every week at my job and spending all my time off completing online courses and looking for apprenticeship opportunities, I’ve finally found a great role in a great business that’s so close to home.
What is your proudest moment at KC (so far)?
I’ve managed to get some fab coverage for the press releases I’ve sent out in the past few weeks. I have also produced blogs a few blogs for our clients, which have all received positive feedback and have given me the confidence boost to create more written content for clients and the KC blog.
If you could have any company as a client, who would it be?
I think something like a skincare or makeup brand would be cool. I’m a big fan of many of The Ordinary’s products, and I love their simple and straight to the point branding themes and have some fab marketing campaigns.
If you could close your eyes and transport yourself anywhere, where would you go?
My family and I are all big ‘Friends’ fans, and we’ve wanted to go to New York for years. Visiting Central Park and trying some proper NYC pizza is up there on my bucket list. Other than New York, I’d love to go to Italy, Barcelona or maybe Greece in proper Mamma-Mia style!
