Welcome to our ‘Meet the Team’ feature, where we give you a chance to meet the people behind the business! So now is the time to discover more about our Senior Digital PR Manager, Frankie Lyons…
Name: Frankie Lyons
Job title: Senior Digital PR Manager
I first got into PR when I undertook my year 10 work experience with my sister in the press office at Northern Ballet in Leeds. After experiencing the PR buzz and fast-paced environment, I decided to study PR and Marketing at Leeds Metropolitan University. During my degree, I had a 1-year placement which I secured with french fashion retailer La Redoute where I got the opportunity to work with the offline marketing and PR teams on some really exciting projects including a pop-up event at London Fashion Week.
Once I graduated, I got my first job working for digital marketing agency Epiphany in the PR team. I worked there for 5 and ½ years on a wide range of traditional and digital clients such as Carphone Warehouse, Great Lengths, Portafina and the University of Law.
During this time I also worked with some amazing not for profit organisations including She Does Digital which encouraged more women to consider digital careers, where I worked as a Social Media Manager. And Digi, where I was a board member for two years. Digi was the first of its kind, not for profit micro agency run by Leeds University graduates aimed at showcasing digital as a career path for the next generation.
How long have you been at KC Communications?
I started with KC Communications on the 26th October, so just over a month now.
What attracted you to this role?
I previously worked with Account Director Ellis, and I heard nothing but great things about KC. After seeing the job vacancy on Twitter, I got in touch to find out more and the rest is history!
If you could change one thing about KC Communications, what would it be?
At the minute, we are working the majority of time from home due to ongoing restrictions, but I’d love to be able to spend more time (in person) with the team! Here’s hoping 2021 brings us more opportunity to do just that.
What important milestones do you have coming up in your life?
2020 has been a year of milestones for me including finally getting married after being with my boyfriend for 12 years. Coronavirus altered our plans to have our big wedding celebration, so I’m looking forward to my wedding reception and official honeymoon to Las Vegas and New York next year.
If you were handed £1.5 million today, what would you do with it?
This is probably really predictable but I’d go on holiday with all my loved ones to somewhere super warm where we could relax on the beach with a cocktail. I’m thinking of a private island in true Kim Kardashian style!
What is the strangest talent you have?
I don’t really have any strange talents, I do have a lot of useless reality TV, Beyonce and Kanye West knowledge but I’m not sure this counts!
What do you love about your job?
I love the fast-paced environment of working in an agency. It’s really true when they say no one day is ever the same. I also love getting coverage for my clients, there’s no better feeling than launching a campaign that you’ve been working on for weeks and then seeing all the coverage come through.
What TV show/movie/song closely represents your life at the moment?
It has to be Keeping up with the Kardashians (but a little less glamorous and based in West Yorkshire). As one of five children, I now have 7 nieces and nephews, so my life is always hectic and filled with family-related fun.
Do you currently have, or did you have, any nicknames?
Frankie is my nickname as my ‘proper name’ is Frances, but only my parents call me that.
What is your go-to drink when at a pub/bar?
I’m a fruit cider kind of gal but if I’m feeling fancy, a flavoured gin and tonic.
What personal accomplishment are you secretly really proud of?
I’d say the fact that I was able to save up and buy my first house with my partner before the age of 25.
What is your proudest moment at KC (so far)?
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working hard on a couple of digital PR campaigns for clients including UKCaravans4Hire.com and Specialist Glass Products. So far we’ve seen some amazing, relevant and authoritative coverage come through on target publications which I’m really proud of.
If you could have any company as a client, who would it be?
I would love to work with mental health charity Mind or a music festival such as Leeds and Reading!
If you could close your eyes and transport yourself anywhere, where would you go?
With lockdown, I’ve really missed live music so I would 100% go to Glastonbury festival. There’s truly no place like it in the world and I’d love to be in a field, seeing my favourite band with all my friends and a warm cider in hand.
