I can honestly say I didn’t think an office-based job was for me, but since doing my work experience at KC Communications, that opinion has changed.
I’m currently a third year journalism student at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), and as part of my course I had to undertake a work experience placement in order to complete my module. But with all the stress of university work and a part-time job time marched on faster that I anticipated, so instead of looking in Liverpool I decided to head back to my hometown of Huddersfield to see what opportunities were on offer, enabling me to spend some time with family in the process too.
I decided I would like to experience work in PR, marketing and social media to expand my knowledge of the different sectors of work I can go into post University. PR is certainly something I have been considering for the future, and during my research I came across KC Communications.
My first week here was exciting, with such a welcoming team, I was given smaller tasks just to test the waters, but as the week went on with much laughter and conspiracy theories discussed, I got the hang of the work and knew what I was doing. In my first week I undertook a lot of work around researching social media and forward planning, as well as creating blogs and press releases.
Following into my second week, I was given more challenging tasks which pushed my journalistic skills, social media and my research skills, some of the tasks included:
- Marketing audit
- Research for potential clients
- Awareness calendars
- Forward planning
Overall, it’s been a great two weeks, learning so many different things about PR and how to work in different styles depending on the client. The days would have passed a lot slower if it wasn’t for the brilliant team.
